Sunday July 12, 2015 The Horn, The Bulge, Mt. Cabot

This was the second weekend in a row that we were able to get out hiking. Last weekend we did a backpacking trip to the Blue Brook Tentsite as a practice trip to be sure everything was good for our summer vacation hiking trip. I did not post about this trip because it was not about peak bagging or go over any mountains. It was just to be sure everyone was happy with their gear and food, because once we head out this summer, what we have is it for a few days so it better work.

This weekend we headed up the Unknown Pond Trail. The lower portion had had some recent brush clearing, but the upper portions were grown in some.

We reached the Unknown Pond Tentsite in 1 hour and fifteen minutes where we stopped for a quick snack.

After our snack we were off. We passed a few people chatting on the trail and made our way up to The Horn.

The hike to The Bulge was quick. We passed the same group of three people that we saw earlier. They passed us while we were on The Horn, we exchanged hellos again, and were on our way.

We hiked over to Mt. Cabot, quickly stopped for a photo, talked to some people for a moment and proceed to Cabot Cabin for a quick snack.

We headed down Bunnell Notch Trail and made quick time of it. All said, it was only a six hour day. It was nice to get out and this was only Jillian's second time to Mt. Cabot. Part of our summer goal is finishing her second Round of the 48. The Horn and The Bulge are on the New England Hundred Highest list, which she has not been pursuing but rather picking them off if we happen to be in the area.
