January 25, 2015 Cannon Mtn., Mt. Tecumseh. Peaks # 27-28

Having had a long hike the day before, Jillian and I decided on an easy day. We decided to pair up Cannon Mtn. and Mt. Tecumseh, two peaks that I can't stand to do. Don't get me wrong, they are both great hikes, but both are so short that it feels like a waste of a drive to hike them individually. We  hiked Cannon first knowing it was steeper and thinking we would get more tired as the day went on. Kinsman Ridge Trail was the route for the day and we were off. With some light snow overnight, I opted for snowshoes and Jillian for her microspikes.

Oh well no views today

Summit of Cannon Mtn.

It was cold and quite windy so we did not linger long. We snapped the summit photos and skedaddled. As soon as the decent began, the sled came out and as always, I stayed behind her cleaning up the trail to avoid the luge track effect.

The sled made quick work of the decent and in two hours and forty five minuets we were back at the car for the drive down 93. At Waterville Valley we were lucky and found a parking spot in the packed lot right near the trail head. All ready dressed and ready to go, we were on the trail quick. This time we both opted for microspikes.

Again the sled made quick work of the decent and in two hours and twenty minutes we were back at the car. It was nice to see that even though Jillian was tired to start the day, she actually got stronger as the day went on. It was also nice to bang these two short hikes out on the same day. I don't know how much time the sled saves on decent. I'm sure it make things a little faster, but it undoubtedly saves energy and that was the goal. Can't wait for next weekend!

28 down 20 to go
